Dr. Nunez was inspired to pursue a career in medicine at a young age when a close relative began suffering from heart disease. During medical school, he became fascinated by cardiac physiology and pathophysiology. Impressed by the wealth of technology and tools available to the modern cardiologist to treat illness and reduce suffering, he chose to further hone his skill set. He became a cardiac electrophysiologist because it allowed him to treat patients with conditions causing significant pain and suffering, such as atrial fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. Additionally, Dr. Nunez found that cardiac electrophysiology allowed him to mitigate the impact of most heart rhythm disorders through the use of medications, surgery, and interventional procedures.

Dr. Nunez underwent further rigorous training as an Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program Fellow at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, also in Brooklyn. After completing a prestigious Cardiology Fellowship at SUNY, Dr. Nunez went on to pursue a Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine/Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and was named Chief Fellow from 2020-2021.
